My new toy
Wow, it has been way too long since I have posted to this site. Sorry about that, been rather busy, even though there are only like 2 people that read this. Well, since my last post I have actually started to pay for my webhosting, thanks 1and1 for the free 6 months though. And in more exciting news though I bought a new PC. Would have preferred to build a new one, but Dell had a good deal and I don’t have time (or really the money to buy what I wanted). But I did get myself a nice shiny Dell Dimension 9100 with a Pentium D (That’s dual core baby!).

The specs as they currently stand are:
- Pentium D 830 Processor - Dual Core 3.0Ghz
- 1GB DDR2-533 RAM
- 320GB SATA RAID 0
- 16x Dual Layered DVD/RW
- Radeon X300 SE 128MB PCI-Express 16x
Not a bad machine. I don’t play that many games on the computer anymore, so having a really nice video card right off the bat doesn’t bother me. Immediate future for this machine includes the following little beauties:
- 2GB DDR2-667 RAM - I don’t get why they only put 533 in this thing if it will support 667
- Radeon X800 256MB PCI-Express 16x - As I said I don’t play enough games on the computer anymore to need anything ridiculous, and being sub $200 for the card makes it a great value
- 300GB+ SATA backup HDD - really don’t want to trust everything to just a RAID 0 array
- Hauppauge PVR250 - TV good. Especially when I’m working, no line of sight from my desk to the TV
- Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW - 24″ widescreen monitor goodness, commense drooling now.
I gotta say I love the machine and am looking forward to getting my media server now. Still not sure exactly what my plans are for that bad boy, but I know I’m looking for probably a full 2TB of storage (at least in the near term) for it. That should be real fun, but that is probably a full year off or more. Need to buy a house first. *grins*
Now I just need to get off my lazy ass and start posting some more.

[...] So for the past six months or so I’ve been using Azureus as my faithful Bittorrent client. Very nicely done program, good interface, lots of features. But, it is an amazing resource hog as it is a Java based application and can cause the Java runtime environment to reach nearly 200MB in memory usage. My machine has no problems handling the load, as it is a Dual Core CPU with 1GB RAM and RAID 0 SATA Drives, but this is just really more than I am willing to give up just for sharing some files. I’ve spent lots of time perfecting my Bittorrent configuration and have things working beautifully, but I finally decided to switch to a new client that is less resource intensive. [...]
