I’m surrounded by stupid people
If you’ve ever read any of this blog you know that I work for a franchise of Geeks On Call. You know, one of those companies that provides on-site computer service and has really wierd/silly commercials. And pretty much as it stands the main competition that comes in (and the company that so many people confuse us with) is Geek Squad. And in case you live in a hole or have been at the North Pole for the past couple of years, you know that Best Buy owns Geek Squad. So I was checking out the Geeks On Call forum today and stumbled accross this beauty of a post from some franchise owner in Virginia. I was really just shocked at the stupidity of this post in general, but the last line really got me. Before reading this post remember, A) Our company is Geeks On Call, B) Our main competition is Geek Squad, C) Best Buy owns Geek Squad. So on with the drivel:
Does anybody know (or know where to look) if there is any type of federal program to assist low income people with either purchasing a computer or having it worked on.
It seems as the government has programs to assist americans in all kinds of ways and with titles such as “no child left behind”, I would think that the government would want everyone up on computers. If no program/voucher is available now, maybe we could start pushing for one. The thoughts are that even if the government does not pay us our normal rates, the appointments could be gap fillers when we are slow, while also doing good in our communities. Second, once most people get a computer and it then goes down they want it back up. So hopefully even if the government does not pay for additional service, there will be a whole lot more computers for us to service.
If no program is currently offered, maybe we could partner up with Microsoft or Bestbuy or some other big names to push congress for some type of voucher.
