As The Waves Enter My Brain

Looks like it is time for us to get a new microwave. After 3 years of using hand-me-down equipment the one we currently own has gone and died. Took me about 5 minutes to warm up some water (which usually takes the microwave 2.5 minutes to get it steaming hot) to even get slightly warm. Been looking at them online all morning and I think I found the model we are going to be purchasing, an LG 1.2 cubic foot 1200 watt model. There are some others that looked nice, but are out of stock, so of course had to go with what was available. I’m going to do some more research before I buy it, but this will most likely fit the bill, nice and powerful but a little on the small side. I live in an apartment, I can’t put a huge anything in here.

As a side not, they have freaking microwaves with built-in coffee makers, toasters and crap now. I guess if you live in a really small studio apartment or something this might be good, but come on, most people anymore realize that these combo things end up doing neither task they are built for as good as the standalone versions. Also, if anyone has a microwave they are getting rid of let me know.

Killing Time

Sitting in a nice cozy little section of North Baltimore atm, in my PT waiting for a customer to show up. It’s 10:05 and the call is scheduled for 10:50, but I was right down the street and figure the sooner I finish this, the sooner I get to go home for the day. Surprisingly enough, there are 5 APs visible from where I sit right now and 3 of the 5 have WEP enabled… and me without my WEP cracking gear! Oh well, at least I have the Verizon Air Card (unfortunately both the APs with no WEP have crap for signal), so it isn’t a total loss, a little music, some internet, and we are good to go.

And for some more Sony bashing, check out Doomworld’s mewse in a little interview he did with CBC last week. Bash those evil corporate mongers in the head! And on that subject, here is a fun program I found the other day for converting all those xvid/divx files you have laying around to DVD. Hopefully this lady will get home soon so I can bang out the call and head home to get ready for a wedding I’m going to tonight. Gonna get my drink on… LOL. =D

Xbox 360 crashes, caught on tape

From Digg.com:

For those of you who are too lazy to look for the video, this is a direct link to it.

Why I never buy anything when it is first released. Always wait for at least Rev 2.0. =D

Crash!

If you like Mythbusters and enjoy a good car crash check out the episode that was on last night. Really awesome footage of a head-on semi accident that they staged. Awesome stuff, too bad Discovery charges a god awful amount for any of their TV shows (like $20+ an episode) cause I might have actually purchased that. Oh well, their loss.

Average Grocery Getter = Dumb

The grocery store across the street from me recently put in 3 of those nifty self-checkout lanes. Personally I am all for it as that way I don’t have to talk to anyone while I am at the store. But there are two drawbacks, the lanes are almost never freaking open, and most people are too stupid to use them. Take tonight for instance, my wife forgot to by cheese for the tacos we had for dinner. So I stop to get some on the way home. No biggie, boy was I wrong. The lady in front of me took about 10 minutes to ring up the last 1/4 of her items (about where she was when I arrived in the line) and became extremely confused with regard to how to sign her name when she purchased with a credit card.

I dunno, just makes my head hurt. These self checkout lanes are supposed to improve your shopping experience, mostly because you would think the stupid people would stay away from the lanes for the simple fact that they don’t have a clue as to what they are doing. Just makes it so obvious that we will never be able to do away with a cashier anywhere because 99% of the world is just too dumb to do this for themselves.
