CA ezAntivirus Wierdness Today
Still have Computer Associates ezAntivirus running on my laptop (it’s free) and noticed some issues around mid-afternoon with the updates not working. Went looking into this when I got home and it seems that at some point CA tried to update the ezAntivirus program to the same VET engine as their eTrust product, and it seems it didn’t go so well.
Symptoms that I know of so far:
- Can’t retrieve updates for the definitions
- Realtime Protection disabled
- Product says that the subscription has expired
Bad timing for them to have this issue that’s for sure. Especially with CME-24 going active in about 2 hours here on the East Coast. Granted I don’t have it, but damn would I be pissed if my AV died and then I lost all my files because of this worm. Of course, it would be my own dumb fault because I was dumb enough to click on the file to begin with.
Mine personally is working as expected now, running on both the 12.x engine and the 2xxx definition files. For more information on what’s going on you can check out the following sets of threads:
And as a funny coincidence I purchased a full license for Nod32 for my x64 Desktop today. Go me!
Update:
Now my antivirus believes that it expired in 1601!
