Symantec Bashing At Its Finest
So I downloaded the trial versions of Norton 2007 (IS and AV) with the thought of loading them on my VM test box and seeing how they stack up performance wise. Not really interested in protection stats, I just wanted to see how bloated the Norton 2007 products are, as it seems every year the bloat gets much much worse.
So I started the install of Norton AV 2007 about 45 minutes ago and it hasn’t finished yet. This is utterly retarded. NOD32 installs in about 15 seconds (doing a silent install) on my VM, and it runs quicker than most peoples PCs in general. The host box is a Pentium D 3.0GHz, with 2GB RAM (512 dedicated to this VM) and Windows x64. So it’s no slouch. At this rate all I can say is thank goodness the Norton Removal Tool has added 2007 to the list of Norton products it can make go away.
At this point I think it’s safe to say I won’t be testing out NIS.
