80 minutes to replace a HD

So I got some new Hard Drives for my PC. Unfortunately one seems to have been flaky and causing crazy issues on my PC. Call Dell to get them to replace them (it was convenient and had the credit when I bought them). Deal with India and explaining to the moron for over an hour that it was a bad HD and being forced to sit through “troubleshooting” (also known as me sitting and going uh huh, nope didn’t work, still doesn’t work, etc) till he finally gave up and wanted to send a tech to replace my Hard Drive. I was like “no, just send me the damn drive”. I don’t want some monkey to tool with my PC. Either way, new HD on it’s way finally… I need a beer.

I have been cleansed

So I canceled my Myspace account today. Finally, something I really should have done a long time ago. Cleanse my internet footprint of my section of that blight on this planet. Even Geocities was never this bad, at least it kinda forced people to have some clue as to what they were doing. Goodbye myspace, for I shall not miss thee.

Did I Delete That?

So my old friends back at Geeks On Call have done it again. Now they’ve involved themselves in the scandal that is revolving around the deletion of Top Secret investigations files. Seemed an investigator for the Government used GOC to DOD level wipe a series of Hard Drives. Which is interesting since his agency has their own technical experts. My question would be, which franchise was dumb enough to involve themselves in this particular mess? Being as it was from Jeff Phelp’s franchise doesn’t suprise me. He’d do anything for a buck, and gives true technicians whose only passion is technology and making work better for them, a bad name.
From the article:

Mr. Bloch had his computer’s hard disk completely cleansed using a “seven-level” wipe: a thorough scrubbing that conforms to Defense Department data-security standards. The process makes it nearly impossible for forensics experts to restore the data later. He also directed Geeks on Call to erase laptop computers that had been used by his two top political deputies, who had recently left the agency.

Geeks on Call visited Mr. Bloch’s government office in a nondescript office building on M Street in Washington twice, on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, 2006, according to a receipt reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. The total charge was $1,149, paid with an agency credit card, the receipt shows. The receipt says a seven-level wipe was performed but doesn’t mention any computer virus.

Just makes me glad I am not associated with Geeks on Call anymore. Of course if you want to read more about it see the following:

E-mail Consolidation

I was just sitting here thinking about all the email addresses I have, and I suddenly realized I have entirely too many and need to consolidate. Everything already ends up in my gmail account anyway, so might as well just start using that for everything personal. Especially with the issues I’ve been having with Comcast performance wise, I may have to just walk away from them soon, which would leave all my emails stuck in the ether. So as of this moment I’m making a personal goal to transition all my stuff to gmail and begin sorting it as one should. I’ll have to keep everyone updated on my progress.
