Why Comcast, Why???

So it seems Comcast changed the MSO password for the SMC8013WG’s. *sigh* And shockingly enough the guy on the other end of the phone was incapable of properly setting up the gateway in bridge mode. Ungh… anyone out there know the current mso password for the Comcast SMC8013wg? And no, it is no longer “w0rkplac3rul3s”. If you can help, please drop me a line.

LaCie 2TB NAS

I so want one of these boxes from LaCie. From what I can tell it’s basically a full PC running a VIA processor and it prolly has 4×500GB SATA Drives inside. It’s rackmounted and it looks darn sexy. Now assuming everything is as one would think, I could prolly buy it, stuff Ubuntu Server on it and be the mac daddy! Anyone know of any reviews where they have cracked one of these bad boys open and looked at the internals? I would love to know for a fact what this thing contains before plopping down $1300 on it. But still, $1300 for a 2TB Linux SMB Server… mmmmmmmmmm

Did I mentioned I’m 99.999% sure my wife would kill me if I bought it and she realized how much I spent?

Stupid Kids Computer Games

So the Kids got a bunch of computer games for their PC over the holiday and over and over with the ones they got I keep running into the same stupid issue. You have to have Administrative privileges for the games to run properly! What the heck is the point of having a limited user account for the kids so they can’t wreck the PC if they can’t play any of their games on it. *sighs*

If anyone knows a way to have the runas command auto input the password when you run it I’d love to know. Not to mention the freaking games don’t even have an option to install for all users either. Grrrrr…. thanks Infogrames, I hate you.

Boredom and Random PC = New DNS Box

I got really bored today and decided I was going to take an old Pentium 3 I had laying around and build out an Ubuntu Server box to run DNS, DHCP and a few other little functions on my home LAN. So far so good. I got DNS going and functioning as it should for all the boxes on my network, and I got around to setting up Samba so I can use that extra 40GB of free space on the box for something. What? I’m still not sure yet, but I’ll figure it out.

The box is now headless and KB/Mouseless and sits behind my desk to be fully controlled via Putty on my Windows box. Over time I’m sure I’ll find more uses for my little box, but in the meantime we’ll see how she does at her first couple of tasks.
